SHADE Embarks on Tree Planting in Voinjama

first_imgDue to the frequent occurrence of rainstorms in Lofa County, Support Humanity Against Destruction of the Environment (SHADE), has embarked on planting trees in Voinjama City to prevent wind damage to vulnerable properties. The trees serve as wind breakers to lessen the destructive impact of windstorms on properties and the environment.The disclosure was made by the executive director of SHADE, Peter Dorbor in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer in Voinjama City recently.Director Dorbor said to that date, SHADE has planted 1,500 trees in Voinjama City.He said in order to extend the tree planting to other rainstorm affected areas SHADE needs U$50,000 as operational cost.He explained that SHADE wants to plant trees in Quardu Gboni, Foya and Kolahun.Director Dorbor said several thousand species of trees have been put on nurseries for the upcoming tree planting activity.“We want to extend our tree planting activities to other affected areas once we are able to secure funding,” he said.He said his organization is prepared to work with the county administration to speed up the tree planting effort.He intimated that the tree planting process started years back while its implementation began in December 2013 in the Monument Community in Voinjama City.Director Dorbor said SHADE intends to nurse 2,500 seeds of different varieties of indigenous and exotic trees.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
